About Steer for Change
A personal loss became a movement.
How one mother’s near-loss grew into a foundation protecting thousands of mothers and newborns across Lagos, Ogun, and Oyo.
Kikelomo Adisa, Founder & Executive Director
Our story
It began with a near-loss that could not be ignored.
Steer for Change Mother & Newborn Foundation was born from a deeply personal experience. After nearly losing her newborn due to preventable health complications, our founder, Kikelomo Adisa, was confronted with a painful reality:
If someone with education and access could come that close to loss, what then happens to women in underserved communities with little or no support?
That moment became a turning point. What began as a personal response to injustice has grown into a community-driven movement — focused on protecting mothers, strengthening families, and ensuring that no newborn dies from preventable causes.
Today, Steer for Change works directly within vulnerable communities to provide health education, nutrition support, safe-birth resources, and emergency medical assistance.
Our focus areas
Four areas. One outcome.
Maternal and Infant Health
Nutrition and Child Development
Health Education and Preventive Care
Women’s Economic Empowerment and Livelihood Support
We are driven by one belief
Every mother deserves safety.
Every child deserves a healthy start.
Mission & vision
Two statements. One purpose.
Our mission
What we do, every day.
To improve the health and well-being of pregnant women, nursing mothers, and children in underserved communities — through education, medical support, nutrition intervention, and empowerment initiatives.
Our vision
The future we’re building toward.
A future where every pregnant woman, nursing mother, and child thrives in good health — regardless of their background.
Our approach
Sustainable change, built on four pillars.
We believe sustainable change happens when communities are informed, empowered, and supported.
1
Prevention through education
We conduct maternal health workshops, community dialogues, and awareness campaigns that equip women with practical knowledge about antenatal care, newborn health, hygiene, and nutrition.
2
Direct medical support
Through our outreach programmes, we provide health screenings, birth kits, medications, and referrals — ensuring women receive timely, dignified care.
3
Nutrition & early childhood intervention
We address malnutrition among pregnant women, lactating mothers, babies, and young children through structured nutrition plans, education, and follow-up support.
4
Empowerment & sustainability
We support women economically through skills training and small grants — strengthening family resilience and long-term well-being.
Our impact
Behind each milestone is a mother protected, a newborn saved.

Why our work matters
Most of these losses are preventable.
Nigeria continues to face one of the highest maternal and newborn mortality rates in the world. Yet most of these deaths are preventable.
Access to information, timely medical intervention, adequate nutrition, and community support can change outcomes. We exist to close these gaps.
We are not just responding to emergencies — we are building systems of support that restore dignity and create lasting change.
Our core values
What we stand on. Every decision.
Integrity
We are transparent with our partners, donors, and communities. We deliver on our promises.
Empathy & Compassion
We serve with empathy, dignity, and respect for every mother and child, regardless of their background.
Sustainability
We develop practical, lasting solutions — like Kayplan cereal — that address root causes and sustain our impact.
Impact-Driven Action
We focus on measurable outcomes that directly reduce maternal and infant mortality. Not just activities — results.
Our footprint on the global goals
Aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

Good Health & Well-Being
We improve maternal and child health through medical outreaches, health education, and access to essential healthcare services.

Zero Hunger
We combat malnutrition through nutrition interventions and the provision of healthy, affordable food solutions like Kayplan cereal.

No Poverty
We equip women with resources and opportunities to become financially independent — extending our support well beyond healthcare.

Gender Equality
We empower women with knowledge, resources, and support systems to take control of their health and well-being.

Decent Work & Economic Growth
We promote sustainable livelihoods by supporting women to start small businesses — helping them generate income and support their families.
Ending preventable deaths requires collective action.
Whether through partnership, sponsorship, volunteering, or donation — your support helps protect lives and strengthen communities. Together, we can ensure that no mother gives life at the cost of her own, and no child is denied the chance to thrive.
